Car accident killed two in Upper West
Two people died in an accident that occurred on the Wa-Dorimon road on Monday, DSP John Ferguson Dzineku, Upper West Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has announced.
The deceased, Madam Ama Sakara, aged 37 and Mr Boniba Gbache Naa, aged 45, were traveling in a Mazda Pick-Up with registration number GR 9581 H from Gbache to Chiatanga on the Wa-Dorimon road when the car veered off the road and hit a tree.
Madam Ama Sakara died instantly while Mr Boniba Ghache Naa died shortly on arrival at the Wa Government Hospital.
Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital's mortuary.
DSP Dzineku said eight other passengers, who were also in the car, sustained various degrees of injuries and were admitted at the same hospital for treatment.
He said a postmortem examination on the two bodies indicated that Madam Ama died due to head and neck injuries while Gbache Naa died through rib injuries.
DSP Dzineku explained that Mr Fredrick Nagaaye, the driver of the car, who escaped unhurt, said he veered off the road to save the life of a motorist, who was on his side of the road.
The Commander said the driver was currently under police custody.
He added that after completing their investigation he would be arranged before the Wa circuit court and tried on provisional charges of careless driving and negligently causing harm.
